Rathmoy is not a venue placed on a farm. The farm, the landscape and the generations who have cared for it are the foundation of every stay, gathering and experience offered here.
Our Story
It began as a wedding gift
The Rathmoy story begins in 1938, when Sir Thomas Duncan bought this land as a wedding gift for his daughter, Jeannie. Five generations of the Grace family later, it is still a working sheep and beef farm, and still, at heart, a gift. Mark Grace grew up here, on first-name terms with every ridge and river bend. Andrea arrived from Argentina to film a travel show, and never left. Together with their three children and the Rathmoy team, they now share the place Mark grew up in and Andrea came to call home: not just as a retreat, but as a farm that welcomes guests.
The gift that grew
The Land
From the White Papa Cliffs and the clear waters of the Rangitīkei to the wetlands, lakes and river terraces, this landscape has shaped six generations of the Grace family, and they have shaped it in return.
We especially honour those who came before, Mark’s grandparents, George and Jeannie Grace, and his parents, Christopher and Susana, whose dedication and passion shaped the estate we’re privileged to care for today.
Alongside their commitment to the farm, Christopher and Susana created the magnificent Rathmoy Gardens, a place of exceptional beauty that has become the setting for countless celebrations, unforgettable weddings and treasured memories. Their vision continues to inspire everything we do.
Regenerating the Land

We think of ourselves as guardians here: of the land, the river, the bush-clad cliffs and the birds that own the morning.
Regenerative farming sits at the heart of it, verified rather than just felt. Rathmoy participates in the Savory Institute’s Ecological Outcome Verification programme and is a founding member of the Rangitīkei Rivers Catchment Collective.
From the dramatic cliffs and the river to thriving wetlands, quiet lakes and thousands of trees planted over generations, we farm to leave the land healthier than we found it for the generations to come.
