Always carry your gun in a slip (gun case) between drives
When on your peg and your gun is loaded, keep your barrels pointed skywards
When you reload your gun, shut the stock not the barrels, this way your barrels will not be pointing at the beating line when you shut the gun
Do not shoot low birds
If you don’t see sky under a bird, do not shoot
Do not shoot ground game, cats, hares, rabbits etc
Do not shoot birds that have passed over the gun line (only shoot between 10 o’clock and 2 o’clock) as it is unsafe for the Gun next to you or the
Picker-uppers” that are standing behind you
No shooting before or after the horn. The horn signals the start and finish of the drive
Make sure you unload on the signal to finish the drive
If you are unsure about where the beaters are, please ask
Wear hearing protection during each drive
There are no stupid questions
ETIQUETTE
Punctuality is imperative
Check you have sufficient cartridges for each drive
Carry cartridge bags on the gun line for extra ammunition
Excessive or loud talking prior to and during the drive is to be avoided as this alerts the birds to your presence prior to the drive and can also disrupt the concentration of other guns
No shots should be taken before or after the horn to start and finish the drive
Do not shoot low birds as this is not only unsafe for the beaters but not sporting
Do not shoot at your neighbours birds
Your shoot peg positions are allocated through the drawing of peg numbers at the start of the day
At the end of your day, take time to thank the Beaters and most importantly, the Keeper. Sport tips are a good way to do this and usually gets you a good day the next time you come
