RATHMOY GARDEN

Rathmoy is a large rural garden lying on the edge of a hidden plateau 4 kilometres east of the Hunterville township.  To the north are panoramic views of Mt. Ruapehu and to the east, the Rangitikei River winds through it's own unique landscape.

Rathmoy has been enlarged to park-like proportions, combining sweeping lawns backed by borders billowing with old roses and massed with interesting trees, flowering shrubs and perennials.  Several large lakes lying in a fold in the centre of the garden are an outstanding feature.  These teem with wild fowl, ducks, geese and white swans.  In a nearby pasture donkeys bray and coloured sheep graze with a friendly llama.

A charming homestead looks out on a series of lavish brick-walled enclosures forming intimate gardens.  Unusual garden containers crammed with a great variety of plants adorn the terraces and nearby dovecotes are home to many free flying white fantail pigeons.

Visitors will be charmed by this gracious garden so easily reached from State Highway 1.
